Your page stays hidden
The prompt shows only a password box. The address behind the link is not shown until the password is right.
Guessing is slowed down
After 10 wrong tries in 5 minutes from one address, further tries are refused for a while.
Asked once an hour
After the right password, the same browser can open the link again for an hour without typing it. Then it asks again.
How it works
The rules, so there are no surprises.
- Set it on any link. Tick Password-protect this link when you make or edit it, and type the password. Untick it to open the link to everyone again.
- Send the password separately. Share the link in one place and the password in another, such as the link by email and the password by message.
- QR codes too. A scan of the link's QR code opens the same prompt, so a printed code can lead to a members-only page.
- On your own domain. Protection works the same on a custom domain as on ours.
- Add an end date. A protected link can also expire on a date or after a number of clicks. Expiring links.
- Know its limits. Anyone who has the password can open the link and pass both on. It keeps a link out of casual reach; it is not a place for data that must stay secret.
