Organise links in folders
On the Pro plan and above you can group a workspace's links into folders. A folder is only about organisation: it never changes where a link sends people, and moving a link between folders does not touch its address, its clicks or its QR code.
Folders live in the panel to the left of Short URLs. On a narrow screen the panel becomes a drawer, opened by the Folder: button above the list, which also shows which folder you are in.
Making folders
Click New folder in the panel, type a name and press Enter. To make a folder inside another one, open the parent's … menu and choose New subfolder. Folders can be five levels deep, and two folders at the same level cannot share a name.
The same menu renames a folder, moves it somewhere else, and deletes it. Deleting a folder never deletes a link: its links and its subfolders move up to the folder above it, or become unfiled if it was at the top level.
Putting links in folders
- Drag a row from the list onto a folder. Tick several rows first to move them together.
- Move to… appears above the list once rows are ticked, and lets you pick the folder from a searchable list.
- On the link itself: the create and edit forms both have a folder field.
- A whole import: bulk create files the entire batch into the folder you pick, and the quick-add box inside a folder files what it creates there.
After a move, the message that appears offers Undo. Undo only puts back the links that have not moved again since, so it can never overwrite a colleague's newer change.
What a folder shows
Opening a folder lists the links in it and in everything beneath it, which is also what the number beside its name counts. A folder holding its links in subfolders therefore shows their total rather than zero. Unfiled lists the links that are in no folder at all, and All links comes back to the whole workspace.
The address bar follows the folder you are in, so a link to the page can be shared with a colleague and opens on the same folder. If that folder has since been renamed or deleted, the page says so and shows every link instead.
Search works alongside folders: a word that matches a folder name finds the links filed in it, and campaigns/q4 reads as a path.
What else follows the folder
- Analytics. View analytics on a folder opens the workspace dashboard filtered to that folder and its subfolders. Folders with more than 100,000 links in them are too large to filter this way, and the page says so instead of loading slowly.
- CSV export. Exporting from inside a folder exports that folder, and the file has a Folder column (see export your links to CSV).
- Its own settings. Folder settings in a folder's … menu opens, beside the tree, the two things a folder decides for the links inside it: its UTM naming rules and the custom domain new links there start on. Both are inherited until you set them: a folder follows the nearest folder above it that has them, and failing that the workspace. Rules set on a folder REPLACE the ones it would otherwise follow rather than adding to them, and Use inherited rules hands it back.
- The API. Links carry a folder path such as
Campaigns/Q4, and there are endpoints for the folders themselves. See the folders reference.
Plans
Folders are part of the Pro plan and above; a name and notes on a link are free on every plan. If a workspace moves back to Free, nothing is lost: the folders and the filing stay as they are, the panel is simply hidden until the workspace is on a paid plan again.
Everyone who can edit links can use folders. See roles and permissions.
